Eligibility Criteria
B.Des (Bachelor of Design)
Age:
- The candidate should be less than 24 years as of 1st August of the admission year.
- Relaxation: 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
Academic Eligibility:
- 10+2 exam from any recognized institute.
- Cleared Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
- Obtained a 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
- Passed any Public School/ Board/ University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to a 10+2 system.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate.
B.F.Tech (Bachelor of Fashion Technology)
Age Limit:
- Maximum age should be less than 24 years as of 1st August of the year of admission.
- The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for SC/ST/ PWD categories.
Academic qualification:
- The candidate must have passed the 10+2 exam.
- A passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
- Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
Master’s Courses (M.Des, M.F.M, M.F.Tech)
Age limit:
- There is no age bar for M.Des and M.F.M courses.
- There is no age bar for M.F.Tech. course.
Academic Qualification:
- Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognized by law in India
- Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID for M.Des and M.F.M.
- F.Tech. from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)
- E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India for M.F.Tech.
Syllabus
GAT (General Ability Test):
- Quantitative Ability:Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
- Communication Ability and English Comprehension:Synonyms, Antonyms, Words with corresponding meanings, Singular, Plural, One-word substitutes, Idioms and Phrases, Correct spellings, Comprehending a situation from a given passage, etc.
- Analytical Ability and Logical Ability:This section may include questions to test logical reasoning and analytical ability.
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs:Questions related to general knowledge and current affairs.
- CAT (Creative Ability Test):The CAT is specifically for B.Des and M.Des candidates. It aims to evaluate the intuitive ability, power of observation, concept development, and design ability of the candidate.
- GAT is common for all programs. Regardless of the program you are seeking admission to, the GAT paper is mandatory.
- The GAT and CAT papers are part of the first stage of the NIFT exam, and candidates are shortlisted for the second stage (Situation Test/Personal Interview) based on their performance in the written exams.
- The GAT is designed to assess a candidate’s general aptitude, and the CAT focuses on evaluating the creative and design-oriented skills.

General Ability Test (GAT):
- Duration: 2 hours
- GAT is common for all programs.

Creative Ability Test (CAT):
- Duration: 3 hours (for B.Des and M.Des candidates only)

Situation Test/Group Discussion/Personal Interview
Situation Test:
- For B.Des candidates.
- Involves hands-on practical work to assess the candidate’s skills in material handling and innovative thinking.
Group Discussion (GD) / Personal Interview (PI):
- For M.Des and B.Des candidates.
- Candidates are assessed on various parameters like communication skills, general awareness, and the ability to articulate thoughts.

Cut-off
Determination of NIFT Cut-off:
Performance in Written Tests:
- The NIFT cut-off for the written tests is generally based on the performance of candidates in the General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT).
